Music therapy

Hey there! My name is Cheuk Shing Roy Leung, the founder of Cicada - Music & Music Therapy,  and I'm a Registered Music Therapist accredited by the Australian Music Therapy Association. You can call me Roy for short. I hold a Masters in Creative Music Therapy from Western Sydney University, and I also have a Bachelor of Design (Product) from Griffith University. I'm fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, music and basic Japanese, I’m recently learning Malayalam too,  so feel free to chat with me in any of those languages, or you can share your language with me as well.

As a music therapist, I truly believe that music is a universal language that connects people. It's an incredible tool for communication and expression. In addition to my work as a music therapist, I'm also a product designer. I'm passionate about creating new musical instruments and adaptive tools specifically for music therapy settings. It's a rewarding journey to see how music can positively impact the lives of individuals with diverse needs.

I've had the pleasure of working in various settings, including hospitals, home setting, brain injury rehabilitation,  special needs schools, schools, aged care facilities, and palliative care. I mainly work with people with ASD, brain injury and people who suffering mental health issue.

Music

I'm a multi-instrumentalist with a strong focus on violin and guitar. I've been playing the violin for over 20 years and the guitar for more than 10 years.  You can often catch me performing at community events in Brisbane, Ipswich, and the Gold Coast, where I love to share culture and the joy of music with everyone around!

Besides the violin and guitar, I also play piano/keyboard, bass guitar, mandolin, voice, Liuqin, Erhu, drum kit, Didgeridoo, Dilruba, Mridangam, Kalimba, Cajon, Asalato, Jew's harp, Djembe and more!  I love exploring different sounds and incorporating them into my musical creation and music therapy.

If I were to describe myself in just three words, I would say I am creative, flexible, and enthusiastic. These qualities help me adapt to various situations and think outside the box when it comes to creating meaningful musical experiences.

I'm excited to connect with you and share the power of music in our lives. Let's make some harmonious memories together!
