About Cicada Music Therapy
Cicada provides music therapy and adaptive instrument design services across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Logan.
Our Inspiration
The cicada, a small insect capable of producing a remarkably loud sound, embodies powerful concepts that drive our mission. Just as the cicada's call resonates far beyond its size, we believe in the potential for great achievements, the journey of self-rediscovery, the power of personal change, and the importance of empowerment and self-expression.
At Cicada, we harness these principles to help our clients unlock their full potential through the power of music, guiding them to find their true selves, transform as individuals, gain inner strength, and share their authentic voices with the world.

Music therapy
My name is Cheuk Shing Roy Leung, and you can call me Roy. I'm a Registered Music Therapist accredited by the Australian Music Therapy Association and the founder of Cicada - Music & Music Therapy.
I hold a Master's in Creative Music Therapy from Western Sydney University and a Bachelor's in Product Design from Griffith University. I'm fluent in English, Cantonese, Mandarin and music.
As a music therapist, I believe in the power of music as a universal language for communication and expression. I'm also passionate about designing new musical instruments and adaptive tools specifically for music therapy settings.
I have experience working in hospitals, home settings, brain injury rehabilitation centres, special needs schools, aged care facilities, and palliative care units. My main focus is working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), brain injuries, and mental health conditions.
Music
I'm a multi-instrumentalist with a strong focus on violin and guitar. I've been playing the violin for over 20 years and the guitar for more than 10 years. You can often catch me performing at community events in Brisbane, Ipswich, and the Gold Coast, where I love to share culture and the joy of music with everyone around!
Besides the violin and guitar, I also play piano/keyboard, bass guitar, mandolin, voice, clarinet, Liuqin, Erhu, drum kit, Didgeridoo, Dilruba, Mridangam, Kalimba, Cajon, Asalato, Jew's harp, Djembe, frame drum and more! I love exploring different sounds and incorporating them into my musical creation and music therapy.
If I were to describe myself in just three words, I would say I am creative, flexible, and enthusiastic. These qualities help me adapt to various situations and think outside the box when it comes to creating meaningful musical experiences.
I'm excited to connect with you and share the power of music in our lives. Let's make some harmonious memories together!
